Dancing Drum’s original methods and materials have been developed over 20 years of work in a wide variety of classroom, workshop, and performance settings in schools, conferences, and special events across the country and internationally. Much of our instruction utilizes a unique method that we call Rhythm Phonics, which connects rhythms played on drums with verbal cues.
The multi-cultural content presented in Dancing Drum programs has been gathered during our research travels in West Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, and throughout the US. One of our goals is to “bring the world home”, and we work hard to keep the information that we present in our programs authentic and engaging.
Current Focus Areas Include:
Each of our Curriculum and Focus Areas can be applied in a variety of program formats. For example, if your school is interested in Interactive Performance (IP) Assemblies, you can choose a focus on “Drumming Up Character”, “Drumming Up World Music”, or “The Rhythm Is Here!” These programs can also be presented as a Professional Development (PD) seminar and/or Family Drum Night (FDN). Currently, “Rhythmatize It!” is only presented as a PD.
