Dancing Drum Signature Series

The Dancing Drum Signature Series includes a range of djembes, djun-djuns, ngomas, drum stands, and drum sticks custom designed by Dancing Drum. Handmade by the expert craftspeople at Tycoon Percussion in Thailand, each drum is carefully constructed from Siam Oak hardwood and mounted with natural hide drum heads. Originally conceived as instruments for use in schools and instructional settings, the high quality of these instruments makes them suitable for professional and high-performance situations, as well.

The wood that goes into our drum shells is plantation-farmed, harvested and replanted on a 7-8 year cycle. This choice helps to avoid some of the problems with deforestation that djembe manufacturers are causing in Africa, Bali, and elsewhere in the world. The staved construction of our drum shells allows us to utilize the best pieces of wood, while discarding any pieces that may lead to cracks or weaknesses. We've paid extra attention to detail at every step of the design, and each drum shell is produced with a perfectly round and even bearing edge to ensure the most comfortable playing experience.

The Dancing Drum Signature Series Djembes are acoustically designed from the inside out to produce a deep bass sound, rich mid-tones, and crisp slaps. Each drum is carefully mounted with a high-quality, unbleached goat hide and pre-tuned to sound great out of the box. Triple-ring mounting systems and non-stretch 5mm rope hold the head tightly to the drum to help consistently retain the desired pitch. A rubber foot on the base of the djembe offers protection to the shell and surfaces that it is played on. Available in three original sizes, 9", 11", and 13", and now a new 12" Pro-Series (calfskin), djembes should only be played with the hands. If you would like to tune your djembe, we have a free tuning video here.

The Dancing Drum Signature Series Djun-Djuns (duns) are professional quality bass drums played with sticks. Mounted with premium Thai cowhides, triple-ring mounting systems and 5mm non-stretch rope, these powerful drums are constructed with every attention to detail. Extremely durable and finished with a non-toxic, mahogany stain, the Dancing Drum Djun-Djuns are available in 4 sizes: Dundunba (15"), Sangban (12"), Kenkeni (10") and the impressive Dundun Bambata (20" Mama Djun). All Dancing Drum Djun-Djuns ship with a free pair of wooden drum sticks.

The Dancing Drum Signature Series Ngoma Drum (12") shares the same high-quality design protocols as our djembes and djuns, made from responsibly harvested Siam Oak hardwood and mounted with a premium, unbleached goat hide and non-stretch 5mm rope. This tall, hand drum is a powerful presence in any ensemble or performance setting. Music teachers especially like the ngoma for leading their drum classes.

The Dancing Drum Signature Series includes a range of custom accessories, including our popular djembe stands, djun-djun stands (ballet and Guinea-style), drum bags, steel djun bells, wooden drum sticks, ksing-ksing drum rattles, drum hats, and other unique percussion sounds.
